The Walnut and Oak Trophies

These two trophies celebrate the successes and achievements of the younger Southdown members, breeders and exhibitors.

The Walnut (Senior) Trophy: 16 – 28 years of age  The Oak (Junior) Trophy: up to 16 years of age

The trophies are awarded at the AGM each year, and this year’s winners are as follows:

The Walnut Trophy winner is Phoebe Hodnett

Phoebe is 21 years old and her small flock, the Warleggan Flock, is kept on her father’s smallholding and currently comprises eight ewes.

Phoebe has exhibited at Royal Cornwall and Honiton Shows this year, fitting in sheep preparation between her Livestock Nutrition studies at the Royal Agricultural University.

She is a keen and active member of the South West regional breeders’ group and she assisted with the Field Day this year, actually helping to set the event up on her 21st birthday.

The Oak Trophy winner is Zoe Hull

Zoe is 10 years old and is the only daughter of a very passionate farming family. Zoe has her own flock of Southdowns, the Glitter Flock, which she very ably shepherds with the guidance of her brothers and parents.

Showing is where Zoe has shown her greatest achievements so far. In 2025, she has attended only a handful of shows, but her successes shine through in both breed classes and young handlers.

Of particular note is her success at Kenilworth show this year – Female Champion and Breed Champion.

Zoe is a keen member of the Southdown Young Breeders’ Group and is excited to learn as much as she possibly can and putting this into practice with her own flock.
