In August Jonathan Long was honoured to judge the inaugural French National Southdown Show at Saulieu, in the Burgundy Region of France.

2019 Southdown Sheep Society Flock Competition

The second official Southdown Sheep Society sale of the season took place at Melton Mowbray on Saturday September 14th, with the pre-sale show taking place the previous day.

With many members no present at this year’s Society AGM, Malvern, here is the Society chairman, Adam Brown’s, report to the AGM on the last 12 months, including details of issues Council has been dealing with in the last year.

The Society AGM held at The Sheep Centre, Malvern, on Saturday 7 September welcomed two guest speakers, NSA chief executive Phil Stocker and APHA vet investigation officer Alan Murphy.

NSA is currently supporting work which is being conducted by Liverpool University on liver fluke.

Southdown trade topped at 900gns at Worcester on Saturday (10 August), with a shearling ram from Jonathan Long’s Chaileybrook flock, Bishops Frome, Herefordshire.

The 2019 National Southdown Show attracted a record number of entries from a record number of breeders, some of whom had travelled many miles to compete in this year’s National Show.
