Southdown shearling ram sets new £3000 breed record

A Southdown shearling ram from the Messrs Wakeham-Dawson and Harmer’s Ridings flock has set a new £3000 breed record price when selling to Goodwood Estate, Chichester.

The ram, Ridings 15/03130 ‘Ridings Flock Master’, is a son of imported French sire Benoit and is out of the homebred dam Ridings 08/1116, which itself is homebred on both sides.

Bred by embryo transfer, Ridings Flock Master had stood breed and interbreed champion at June’s South of England Show, Ardingly, where he was purchased by Goodwood Estate and carries performance figures inside the top 1% of the breed, including an eight week growth rate figure of +3.3 and a scan weight figure of +5.87.

He will be used across the full spectrum of English and New Zealand genetics in the Goodwood flock.
