South Eastern Prime Stock Winter Fayre
held on November 18th at the South of England Showground at Ardingly, West
Sussex
The Southdowns reigned supreme at the 140th South Eastern Prime Stock Winter
Fayre. Both the Supreme Championship and the Reserve Supreme title went to
Southdowns.
Leading the way was a pair of purebred Southdowns from Messrs Wakeham-Dawson
& Harmer, which having taken the championship in the "pure bred pair
of Down lambs" class, went on to sweep top honours later in the day. These
lambs sold to Sussex butcher Tony Foulkes for £80.
A pair of Southdown X Suffolk lambs from Jonathan Long was awarded the
Reserve Supreme Championship. These lambs had won their native crossbred class
before going on to win the reserve interbreed, making it a truly outstanding
day for the Southdown breed. Butcher Tony Foulkes also purchased these lambs,
at £65.
Southdowns dominated the show throughout - in the line-up of exhibits in the
pure bred Downs lamb class, 9 out of the 10 exhibits were Southdowns!
Congratulations must go to all the Southdown breeders whose sheep appeared in
the line-up in all the classes they entered.
