104 MEMBERS and FRIENDS ATTEND SOUTHDOWN AGM and FIELD DAY, which was held at Green Cross Farm, Churt near Farnham Surrey on Saturday the 13th August 2005 by kind invitation of Mr. & Mrs. Philip Whitcombe.

The weather held bright and sunny for most of the day and most people lost their way finding the farm in spite of the map provided by Mr Whitcombe.

In the morning there was a stock judging competition and the Master Judge, Mr. H. George Hughes from Wales, explained why he had put the Southdowns in the order he had. The winner was the person who had put their choices for both the ram and ewe classes into the order closest to Mr. Hughes' list and this was Andrew Hutley from Essex, aged 7. The Fleeces were also judged by Mr Hughes and the winner of this competition was Mr Peter Ballard, who was presented with the Greg Chapman Trophy.

The Financial Statement was presented by Mr. Neil Stainthorpe and was accepted by all. The Chairman, Mr. Alan Mummery MRICS, presented the Annual Report of Council which highlighted all the events etc. which had taken place during 2004. Four Council members were re-elected and two new Council members, Mr Adam Brown and Mr Irving Pallister, were elected.

The Chairman mentioned that the present Secretary, Mr. Clive Pritchard, would be retiring on the 31st March 2006 after forty years service. He will be a hard person to follow. Three applications had been received for the post and a decision after interview will be made at the October Council Meeting.

The Trophies were presented by the Lady Egremont and after a group photograph, tea was served. Everyone enjoyed the day very much.
